A railway transportation technology company is touting a new rail locomotive with the potential to change the way we get around.
The company says the new locomotive can move up to 70 miles per hour, and is designed to be lighter than existing train technology.
The new design can travel at speeds up to 65 mph, making it a very popular choice among rail enthusiasts and some engineers.
This latest news comes as the U.S. Department of Transportation (DOT) prepares to announce a $5 billion proposal to invest $1 billion in new technology that could one day make it easier to get around town.
The technology is called the “rail freight technology” and it can be used to move trains more quickly.
“It’s a high-performance, high-efficiency train,” says James Fink, vice president of engineering at the company, Rail Freight Technology Inc. (RFT).
“It can move from one track to the next, and it has all the components that a train can.”
The locomotive’s design also is made from composite materials that will save fuel and reduce noise compared to existing rail technology.
“The idea is that you can make it lighter, you can put more energy into it, and that means more trains will be able to get between these cities and the suburbs,” Fink says.
“You can also have a lot of freight trains that are smaller, so you can get a lot more cars between the cities and suburbs, as opposed to just a couple of trains going from one place to another.”
Fink and his colleagues hope to launch the train on the rail freight technology rail in 2019.
He says the technology is being used to build trains in China and India and the U., and it could be used in the U-S.
and Canada as well.
“We have a big market for rail,” Finkle says.
RFT already has several companies that manufacture rail freight vehicles.
Fink has been working with two different companies, one based in Europe and one based overseas, to build the locomotive.
The two companies, which are working on their own versions of the train, have already built one locomotive prototype.
The other locomotive, which is based on the same composite materials as the prototype, is about 2 feet long and 6 feet wide.
“There are several different components that go into this,” Finks says.
The prototypes that he has built are about half the size of the current prototype, and they can move at up to 85 mph, he says.
Finks hopes the rail locomotives can be made for use on trains in Europe, and then it would be possible to make them in the United States and Canada.
The locomotive design is similar to the designs of the other rail locomots that have been built over the past few years, and Fink hopes that the new train will have the same qualities as those other designs.
FINK says that he and his team are working with a few other companies to build prototypes of the locomotivers, and there are plans to get them to market in 2019 or 2020.
Fitch says that the company hopes to have a train with the capability to move more than 10,000 people a day by 2021.
“That’s a lot, and we’re trying to get to 20,000,” he says, adding that the average trip on a commuter rail train can take about 10 minutes.
The rail technology company has also developed a prototype of its own, but it is not ready for commercial production.
“What we’re focused on right now is building this prototype that we think will be a big step toward making it viable to use on a commercial basis,” Fitch said.
The goal is to eventually have the train operate on rail lines that are over 2,000 miles long, and the company is also working on building a prototype that can carry people up to 20 feet.
FITCH says that his company hopes the new rail technology will help to get more people to move.
“This is something that we hope to be able do in the future and to help make it more affordable for a lot fewer people,” FICKS said.
