‘I’ll be back’: The truth behind the rumours

By Football Italian staff Sportsmail on 04/01/2016 02:13:50Roma forward Mario Balotelli is looking forward to returning to the field for his first competitive game since the 2015/16 campaign.

According to Sky Sport Italia, Balotellini is ready to resume training with the Serie A club.

The 24-year-old scored 19 goals in all competitions last season and has notched 25 goals in 27 appearances since joining from Juventus.

However, the striker has not played for the Giallorossi since April and is currently on loan to Lazio.

He had previously told La Repubblica that he would like to return to the pitch for his full debut for the Rossoneri in this season’s Serie A campaign.

The former AC Milan man is currently training with Lazio’s reserve team.

Balotelli, who joined Roma from AC Milan in the summer of 2015, has been at the heart of many Roma fans’ frustrations.

Several supporters have questioned his performances at the Stadio San Paolo, a facility that was closed due to the World Cup, and the Italian newspaper Sport claimed the player was told to stop training.

It was widely reported that he had been banned from playing because of a blood clot in his leg.

Roma president Umberto Di Stefano responded by saying the club had “made a mistake” in not allowing the player to play.

Balots departure from the Rossonati could see Roma drop to seventh in Serie A, and Di Stefany said the club was “extremely disappointed” at Balotella’s decision to leave.
